What do you do?
As Chief Technology Officer, my aim is to empower ReMark and its clients through efficient and practical use of technology. In today’s business world, IT is an integral part of business strategy – I help plan, develop and apply consumer-focused, tech-driven strategies which promote organisational growth.
How did you get here?
I’m South African, born and bred. I moved to Amsterdam many years ago where, as an enthusiastic early adopter of the World Wide Web, I received my IT training.
I began working for the newly formed NMB Postbank in IT security management, before moving on to an external IT Security consultant position. I later re-joined the company – by now it was ING – and had the privilege of working on and with many different teams and platforms, gaining experience and insights into a broad spectrum of IT disciplines – in hindsight a rather unique position and combination.
Why do you do it?
I believe in the integration of technology to streamline business – and to improve our lives.
What have you learned during your career?
Expect the unexpected – if it can go wrong it will go wrong, so prepare for it.
What do you do away from work?
With two boys, anything rugby-related – which is how my path crossed with ReMark’s CEO Stephen Collins!
And of course, our yearly family holiday to South Africa is very important to me.
I believe … that a day without laughter is a day wasted.
