What do you do?
As Operations Director I work closely with most parts of the organisation to ensure that our global best practices are maintained and refined for the benefit of our business partners.
In practice, I perform a key role in our ‘global connectivity’ – ensuring that the right resources are available in the right place at the right time.
How did you get here?
I studied International Business and Languages (French) and, after spending a year in Lille refining my French, I joined CIGNA in London in corporate commercial insurances. From there, I moved to South Africa, where I gained exposure to the broking side of the business before enjoying several years in Australia and South East Asia working in Direct Marketing. It was here that I first got to know ReMark – as a client (Royal Sun Alliance) and then as a competitor (ESG, which was later taken over by ReMark).
Returning to the UK, I joined ReMark’s UK&I business as a Relationship Manager. In 2009, I was selected for ReMark’s Leadership Development Programme, which was valuable preparation for my move to an operations role in the UK, then Europe and subsequently, to my current global role.
Why do you do it?
I like what I do. I like the subject matter I deal with and I can see the value of what I do. I feel that at ReMark an individual really does make a difference, an impact. I also enjoy the value we create for partners, together with the flexibility and autonomy ReMark allows its people. Above all, I feel I have ownership and accountability for what I do – and that motivates me.
What have you learned during your career?
Be curious. There is always more to know about something or someone if you allow yourself the time and inclination.
What do you do away from work?
I spend as much time as I can with my family. I especially enjoy our travels (warm climates preferred) but when at home I enjoy the odd spot of cooking – and swimming to keep fit.
